After Picasso’s “Weeping Woman”
Flat and fractured,
who’s holding her face
together? the cheeks
& nose a folded news-
paper, or plain ole
playing cards, clubs
of hacked off thumbs.
It’s tissue, lifted to her
blooming nose. Tell
me,
what’s she just been
driven into to be
so bare? Only
Picasso,
knowing though rowing
is boat below the scope
of her nose, could ever
(though he won’t,
knowing Picasso)
tell . . .
